for people who feel as though they’re always waiting for better days, the new year can bring on anxiety, fear, shame and loneliness. another trip around the sun becomes another year alone, another year of loss, another year of grief.
for those of us who’ve barely survived this decade, there may be a serious and painful reluctance to celebrate or invest energy into our next rotation.

in addition to the many flaws in the way we’ve defined things like “time” & “success” & “happiness”, there are similar misunderstandings in how we view hope, self-worth and growth.

to feel hopeless is an act of self-defence, no one can be blamed for this:  asking someone to trust the universe to shape their life, this year, in a more positive way is an unfair thing to do. but trusting yourself–the self that got you to this point, the self that made it through the darkness to this very moment–is the divine way forward. once you honour your survival, and your ingenuity in navigating the tragedies of your life, you will see that having hope in yourself is the most natural feeling in the world.

by being here in this moment, you have already proven your worth: your purpose in life was never to reach a point or a level of “achievement” where you are absolved of all your mistakes and short-comings. only you possess the power to forgive yourself, so do so: you have already earned your place in this world.

growth & healing are one in the same: if you’re looking back at this decade and thinking “i am not who i wanted to be” keep in mind that those of us carrying wounds will move slower than everyone else – and while it is gradual, healing our wounds is growth. resting & seeking refuge are all important, brave and courageous acts of growing stronger. and because the most natural thing a wound can do is heal; the most natural thing you can do is grow into the person you want to be. getting there is an inevitability, so take as much time as you need.

try to hold yourself a little closer this year. in all the ways that matter, you have won.
